12 ounces fresh or frozen green beans -- cut into 1 1/2" pieces
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 teaspoon black mustard seeds
2 cloves garlic -- crushed
1 fresh green chilli -- finely sliced
or
1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
2 tablespoons tomato puree
1 teaspoon garam masala

In a large frying pan heat the oil, add the mustard seeds. When the seeds start to move add crushed garlic, stir and let it warm a second.

Now add the green beans, the green chill or chilli powder and salt.

Put on a lid and let the beans gently cook in their own juice for about 10 minutes (maybe more or less depending on the freshness of the beans) until almost tender.

Add the tomato purée and garam masala, continue to cook stirring until tender, a small drop or two of water may be necessary to stop the beans from scorching.

Description:  "We like this bharji with grilled or steamed fish and baby potatoes boiled in their skin. It can of course be served as part of an Indian meal and goes quite well with milder curries like kormas."
