Pumpkin Bread

1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs -- lightly beaten
2 cups canned pumpkin (see note if unavailable)
3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2/3 cup water
In a large mixing bowl combine sugar, oil, eggs and pumpkin. Blend well.
In a separate bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon and cloves.
Alternatively add flour mixture and water to the pumpkin mixture beginning and ending with flour, blend well with each addition.
Pour batter into two greased 9" x 5" loaf pans.
Bake in a preheated 350oF (180oC Gas Mark 4) oven for 1 1.2 hours or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
Cool in pans for 10 minutes and turn out onto rack.
When cool wrap in plastic wrap.
Best left for a day or two before serving with slathers of butter.
