Saffron Rice

2 cups basmati rice
20 fluid ounces water
few saffron threads
1 stick cinnamon
3 whole star anise
2 bay leaves

Rinse the rice very well until the water runs clear in a sieve.

Combine all the ingredients in a rice cooker and cook according to manufacturers' instructions.

OR

Put all the ingredients into a pan with a tightly fitting lid, bring to the boil with the lid off, add lid and cook over a very gentle heat until all the water is absorbed. Fork lightly and return to the heat for 5 or so minutes, (about 20 minutes)
