Vidalia Onion Cheese Dip

3 large Vidalia onions -- coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese -- shredded
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
1 clove garlic -- minced

Sauté the onion in the butter until tender

Combine the onion cheese and remaining ingredients. Stir well

Pour into a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole and bake uncovered at 375oF (190oC Gas Mark 5) for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly and golden.

Serve with crackers or hot bread.
